Fujitsu Siemens Computers` FibreCAT N40, an internally developed network-attached storage (NAS) solution, enables users to consolidate their Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 data stores quickly and reliably while ensuring trouble-free data administration.
The FibreCAT N40 creates the possibility of storing Exchange database log files with file server data on a single NAS appliance, when used together with the new Feature Pack for Microsoft Windows Storage Server 2003 for Exchange storage management.
As a Microsoft OEM partner, Fujitsu Siemens Computers is one of the first suppliers on the market to be able to meet its customers` need for storage solutions supporting e-mail database and log files together with file sever data. Both FibreCAT N40 and the Feature Pack for Windows Storage Server 2003 target the small and medium enterprise market (SME), recommended for environments of up to 1 500 mailboxes per server.
Sean Wainer, Product Manager - Enterprise Products at Fujitsu Siemens Computers, says: "Market intelligence indicates that SME customers want an easy to manage and affordable storage solution for their Exchange Server 2003 data and file server data. By combining this data along with other file and print serving, overall storage can be consolidated by as much as 50%. With fewer servers, there are also fewer services and machines to be administered, maintained and repaired."
Fujitsu Siemens Computers has already successfully completed the large-scale deployment and commissioning of the new solution - "FibreCAT N40 including Feature Pack" - for a major South African customer. The high level of consolidation minimises overheads for the administration and maintenance of large numbers of individual servers and guarantees investment security. This can be seen in the fact, for example, that the existing hardware - such as servers and storage devices - can continue to be used and the data they contain can be consolidated on the FibreCAT N40.
"The standard configuration of the FibreCAT N40 NAS system offers 292GB of storage capacity and is scalable as required up to a maximum of 35TB. As a result, the system can be easily adapted to business requirements within Windows-based file and Exchange storage environments. The tailor-made backup concepts developed by our partners Computer Associates (ARCserve) and Legato (NetWorker) put the finishing touches on this all-round solution," adds Wainer.
"With this new solution, Fujitsu Siemens Computers now offers customers even more flexibility and choice in the field of storage solutions for file and Exchange services."
Microsoft has worked closely with Fujitsu Siemens Computers to provide customers with an affordable and highly dependable solution for protecting Exchange Server 2003 data on Windows Storage Server 2003-based NAS. "The combination of the FibreCAT N40 NAS with the Windows Storage Server Feature Pack for Exchange storage management is one way that Microsoft is delivering on the concept of Integrated Innovation, helping companies do more with less on the Windows platform," says Wainer.
