EMC Corporation and Jordan Grand Prix today announced they have teamed up to put information at the center of Jordan`s strategy for competitive advantage. Under the agreement, EMC, the world`s leading provider of enterprise storage systems, software and services, is providing the Jordan team with equipment including an EMC Symmetrix Enterprise Storage system, EMC Data Manager, EMC PowerPath and Symmetrix Manager software.
In putting EMC Enterprise Storage at the core of its IT infrastructure, Jordan is the first Formula One race team to capitalise on the competitive benefits derived from centralised information resources. The Jordan team relies on EMC`s market-leading solutions to make it competitive in an environment where every thousandth of a second counts. The unconventional decision to put storage, not servers, at the heart of Jordan`s IT infrastructure, gives the team advantage over its rivals.
"The presence of EMC within our team has undoubtedly increased our capacity to develop a better product, and for Jordan Grand Prix that means a faster, more competitive car," said Eddie Jordan, Chairman of Jordan Grand Prix. "EMC is directly contributing to our success on the track by giving the team`s technicians instant access to vast quantities of detailed information that is crucial in the mission-critical environment of F1."
Currently ranked number three in the Formula One race season, the Jordan team has already benefited from the increased availability and manageability of information stored on EMC solutions. The partnership has helped to make it possible to share detailed information from disparate work groups - including design, manufacturing and wind tunnel - giving the Jordan team the ammunition it needs to effectively target its opponents. Moving forward, Jordan expects to capitalise on the benefits of EMC Enterprise Storage solutions to improve its entire business and development processes, as well as create an e-commerce strategy for Jordan`s product merchandising division.
Rick Wojcik, EMC`s Vice President of Sales for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, said, "Like any other business, the competitive advantage in Formula One is measured in many dimensions, but the ultimate aim is to beat the competition. By managing, protecting and sharing information in centralised pools, the Jordan Grand Prix team is better equipped to take advantage of information that can lead to success in their field."
Though the use of information technology has become an increasingly important factor in the world of F1, EMC Enterprise Storage has allowed Jordan Grand Prix to create an IT infrastructure unmatched in F1 racing.
"All Formula One teams are increasingly reliant on IT to give them an edge over their rivals, and in the case of Jordan Grand Prix, we are particularly delighted that EMC has joined us as a technical partner," said Jordan. "EMC has already solved several fundamental information flow problems for us, enabling our engineers and technicians to more efficiently manage the data our cars generate while on track. Equally, they will now be able to access CAD drawings and files faster than ever before, speeding up the design and research and development process."
