An implementation of Attix5`s Backup Professional suite protected a JSE Securities Exchange-listed electronics firm after a recent major hardware crash destroyed vital information at the company`s offices.
According to the firm`s financial director, the group central server and file server, which services four divisions, experienced an overheated hard drive and crashed, resulting in the destruction of all the data.
"The crash occurred on a Thursday evening and could have posed serious problems as all our financial and accounting information is consolidated at head office, including the payroll.
"Fortunately, our IT outsourcing partner, Technology Concepts, had implemented the Attix5 backup solution some two years previously and was able to salvage the situation with minimum disruption to our business."
Backup Professional is an automated server suite, which backs up data to a secure offsite location on a daily basis. Once an initial full backup has been performed, the server process only backs up the daily changes, cutting down on bandwidth while still preserving the entire state of a server.
According to Neil Vlaming, Technology Manager at Technology Concepts, the severity of the systems crash necessitated a rebuild of the server array and a complete reinstallation of all software.
"We went through to the Attix5 site at around 11pm on the Thursday night and were able to recover all the lost information and data. The company was up and running again within a day. The ease of use of the Attix5 solution proved key in achieving this. The beauty of Backup Professional from our point of view is that it eliminates all human error as the backups are automated."
Adds the JSE-listed firm`s financial director: "The rapid resolution of this event has brought peace of mind in the knowledge that our crucial information is now virtually inviolate."
