Judicial department looks to RFID

The Abu Dhabi Judicial Department will use a frequency identification (RFID) system to keep track of its files, says ITP.net.

The new system is described as the most comprehensive of its kind in the Middle East in the field of information and will be used to both identify and track judiciary files in the department.

It is expected to improve security, maximise performance and be a step forward in the department's move towards going paperless.

RFID secures hard drive

Storage vendor Freecom has released an external USB hard drive that can only be accessed using an RFID swipe card, reports PC World.

The on the drive itself is not encrypted, but the RFID token locks the drive, making it inaccessible and invisible to the operating system. Freecom says this is the first mass market drive to use a swipe card token.

Freecom's co-founder Axel Lucassen, says: "The keycard system on the hard drive secure keeps your data completely safe and gives you instant access to your files whenever you need to use them."

IDtronic unveils energy-efficient RFID

IDtronic, an RFID supplier, is rolling out I-Prog, a mobile RFID terminal, according to Data Collection Online.

IDtronic claims the mobile device has low power consumption and can be used for up to 10 hours without charging the battery.

The device is suited for asset tracking, warehouse management, supply chain management, access control and event management applications.
