Juniper names CEO

US communications equipment maker Juniper Networks has named senior Microsoft veteran Kevin Johnson as its new chief executive, saying he will start work in September, reports Reuters.

Johnson, 47, replaces Scott Kriens, who had led the company for 12 years and will continue as chairman of Juniper's board, the company says.

Known as "KJ," Johnson was president of Microsoft's Platforms and Services Division, its largest business unit, and had spearheaded the maker's failed pursuit of Yahoo.

Oz holds ICT careers week

A National ICT Careers Week was held across Australia last week, with hundreds of events organised by more than 200 businesses, educational institutions, government agencies, industry and professional bodies and women's groups, says CRN.

The concept, created by the ICT Industry Leadership Group, is managed by the Australian Information Industry Association and the Australian Computer Society to encourage young people to study and take up a career in one of a number of professions in the field.

If successful, it will ensure that Australia continues to produce a highly-skilled workforce that will generate and sustain ICT-based economic growth and innovation, not only for the industry as a whole, but for other sectors, which rely heavily on this knowledge for productivity gains.
