Juniper unveils products
Juniper Networks will begin selling wireless products for mobile carriers, responding to bigger rival Cisco Systems' recent acquisition of a wireless technology firm, reports Reuters.
The company says its new software includes Juniper Traffic Direct which, used together with its MX 3D routers, can help mobile carriers reduce network congestion and infrastructure costs.
Another software product, Juniper Media Flow, will be targeted specifically at helping wireless carriers deliver applications like video and music, says the company, adding that they will be available from the second quarter.
YouTube intros IPv6 support
Google's YouTube online video service will support next-generation IPv6 in response to increased demand from users, states Computing.co.uk.
YouTube network engineer Lorenzo Colliti explains that YouTube users have long requested IPv6 support. "Since the very first announcement of ipv6.google.com, we have been committed to supporting IPv6 and have steadily added IPv6 support to more and more services," he says.
"We are proud to make YouTube available over IPv6 and to begin streaming videos from a select number of sites worldwide to our Google over IPv6 partners,” adds Colliti.

Novatel Wireless has successfully completed a data transmission call using long-term evolution (LTE) 4G technology, says InformationWeek.
The firm didn't reveal the specifications of the call, but noted that LTE provides high data rates of up to 100Mbps on the uplink and 50Mbps on the downlink. The firm, which provides mobile hotspot products, noted it is working with operators planning to unveil LTE commercial data devices later this year.
"We are pleased to achieve these important first data transmission milestones on next-generation technologies last week with dual carrier HSPA+ and now with LTE," says Slim Souissi, Novatel Wireless CTO.
