JVC offers next-gen LCD tech

JVC has developed next-generation super-thin LCD technology for 32-inch television displays, reports JCNnetwork.

The significant reduction in thickness and weight it allows enables greater flexibility in the design and layout of commercial and household visual environments.

Primary features of the technology include integrating a new optical system and modular LCD construction. The technology has made possible the company's thinnest and lightest LCD television display at just 7mm in depth and 5kg in weight.

PS3 Home for company meetings

Microsoft is said to be using Sony PlayStation 3's virtual world Home for business meetings, in an experiment featuring multiple companies looking for ways to reduce carbon emissions and cut costs, according to gamesindustry.

The move is part of a project led by Dr Nipan Maniar and Manish Malik from Portsmouth University, which was commissioned by Advanced Workplace Associates. It aims to explore how large companies can use virtual worlds to save money on office space and travel, as well as reduce their carbon footprints.

While Sony's online space doesn't feature a whisper or private text function, presumably companies could use each user's personal space as a private chat room or use voice chat to make in-game phone calls.

Microvision unveils pico projector

Microvision, which specialises in ultra-miniature projection display products for mobile devices, unveiled the pre-production version of its laser display solution for mobile devices at Macworld Conference and Expo 2009 in San Francisco, reports Business Wire.

The Show WX, which provides an improved display experience and a 25% package-size reduction over Microvision's Show prototype, combines ultra-thin pocket-sized convenience with the power to project DVD-resolution images up to 100 inches across.

The production version of Show WX is planned to be a simple plug-n-play pico projector for people on the go who want to view mobile TV, movies, photos or presentations.
