Kalula Communications (Headset Solutions), the sole authorised distributor of the complete range of Plantronics products in southern Africa, today announced the successful rollout of Microsoft Office Communications Server (OCS) 2007 R2 at the company headquarters in Cape Town and regional office in Johannesburg.
Headset Solutions worked closely with Galdon Data to complete the implementation during June/July 2010. Headset Solutions is the first headset provider in Africa to have completely migrated to OCS for all voice and voicemail services, audio and Web conferencing, instant messaging (IM) and presence.
“This journey to 'go-live' is a significant milestone in Headset Solutions' company-wide unified communications strategy,” said Nielle Truter, Commercial Manager, Headset Solutions.
“The project was successful because of the joint efforts of Galdon Data Support Services and the Headset Solutions Professional Services team.” This same team can now bring the same skills and experience to our customers around the continent, to help them develop an effective migration strategy to unified communications.
With the deployment of OCS, Headset Solutions has realised significant cost savings and been able to speed up business processes. The best part, however, according to Business Development Manager Patrick Carmody, “is that we can now 'federate' with many of our business partners in Africa who are also using the OCS product”.
Headset Solutions expects that both local and long distance communication costs will drop significantly from use of session initiation protocol (SIP) trunking. There is also significant benefit in employees now being able to work almost anywhere with the resulting savings in office space. Employees can now work effectively from home, on the road, hotels, partner offices etc.
To the company's knowledge, this implementation will be one of the first Microsoft Office Communications 2007 R2 rollouts in 'Vendor meets Partner' in Africa, and this implementation further validates our commitment in supporting our unified communication partners.
