Karaoke, Idols mania hits PC market

Johannesburg, 08 Dec 2003

Idols and Karaoke mania will hit the PC market this Christmas with the imminent launch of two new Packard Bell PCs.

Packard Bell has launched the new iMedia home PC range at an exceptionally low entry-level price of R6 999 which now includes the fun entertainment SuperStar pack.

The SuperStar pack can also be sold with any other Packard Bell home PC range at an additional cost of R599. It will be available in Incredible Connection from early December.

"The SuperStar package is aimed at the Christmas market and includes a catalogue with many of the most important contemporary song writers and artists covering all styles of music from around the world," explains NEC managing director Fadi Dayoub.

SuperStar includes Dance Dance and karaoke which comes with a mixing studio. The Dance Dance software ships with several song titles from artists such as Jennifer Lopez, Kylie Minogue, Britney Spears and Westlife, and includes a dance mat to indicate how dances should be performed.

The karaoke module provides studio effects such as reverb, chorus, echo and equaliser as well as the ability to save karaoke songs.

Music Maker enables enthusiasts to create their own music using surprisingly sophisticated recording techniques.

"The iMedia and iXtreme Packard Bell PCs are powerful home PCs, and Packard Bell is the top selling home PC brand in the UK, France, Netherlands and Belgium based on Gartner Dataquest - February 2003 report," says Dayoub.

Faithful to its philosophy of learn, enjoy, create and share, Packard Bell has developed a wide offering focused on digital home entertainment, and has chosen to split its offering into two main ranges.

"Our research shows that consumers are worried that as the desktop market matures, brands will cease to innovate. That`s why we have focused our efforts on making the name Packard Bell synonymous with innovation," said Dayoub.

"In our quest to bring the concept of `digital entertainment at home` to life, we have brought new thinking to bear of the three most important aspects of any PC: design, technology and ease of use. The result is a product line that definitely does not take the consumer for granted."
