Keep on trucking

Big Mutha Truckers is one of those games that won`t cater for every taste. However, it is challenging and fun to play, once you get the hang of it.

Big Mutha Truckers is a boy`s game. No offence ladies, but driving big trucks, being chased by bikers and ramming other drivers off the road is simply boys` fun.

The introduction to the game is very catchy. After watching the movie, you want to play this game and win.

The character selection screen lets you choose your closest match. You have the rowdy "Rawkus Jackson", a really manly road racer. For the ladies, there is "Bobby Sue Jackson", a real lady, or so it seems. "Cletus Jackson" - you can judge for yourselves. Lastly, there is "Earl Jackson" who may need some touching up, but you can make him drive and win his title.

The Jackson family needs to compete against each other to win. The one who makes the most money by buying and selling goods and causing havoc on the roads will walk away with the title.

The catch, of course, is that this must be done in 60 days. However, the reward is for ownership of the business, as Ma Jackson has reached that ripe age for retirement.

Game play is smooth and the player can choose between the "Trial by Truckin" and "Mission" modes.

"Trial by Truckin" entails full game play with a story line. The mission mode is simply a quick challenge.

Although the game lacks the enhanced graphics that we all crave, what else can you expect from a game that requires a 16MB graphics card? The controls are not too bad, but as with any other game, they do take some getting used to.

The sound is pretty average too. It`s nothing to complain about, yet nothing to write home about either.

Once you get on the road, keep your eye on the damage and fuel meters. However, this is not a truck smash. Just go and get your truck repaired after you have sold your goods. When you become a really enterprising businessman, you can even upgrade your truck to your heart`s content.

Big Mutha Truckers is a challenging game to keep up with. You might lose interest and give up very quickly, although it does get better if you win your races, or should I refer to them as battles?

Simply put, Big Mutha Truckers brings out your violent side, so it is not a game for everyone.
