Keops Isis, a member of the JSE Securities Exchange-listed Altech group - and one of the industry`s leading suppliers of Operations Management Systems (OMS) solutions - has secured a multimillion-rand OMS contract with Western Platinum Precious Metals Refinery. The contract will see the company install what is believed to be a South African first in terms of OMS software integration.
According to Pieter Theron, MD of Keops Isis, in order to provide this increased level of system efficiency, Keops Isis will be integrating a number of software products for the first time, including InTouch, a supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) package; InBatch, a batch execution product; Illuminator, a web-based portal; and Protean, an ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) solution.
"What the system will do," he said, "is to allow our client to account for the various precious metals at the various process stages, enabling them to optimise overall efficiencies, thereby cutting back on unnecessary expenses. It will further increase the effective usage of raw materials, other than the base ore and provide S88 compliant batch management and automating some of the safety critical processes."
Theron said his company won the contract after producing a Master Plan for WPR, as well as completing operational detail designs and a software vendor and package evaluation.
Keops Isis ultimately recommended Wonderware software from the local distributor, Futuristix, an industrial software solutions provider due to its superior fit to the requirements as well as the ease of use and openness
