SAS South Africa, the leader in business analytics, is pleased to announce the appointment of Kroshlen Moodley as the Business Development Manager of its Public Sector business unit.

The division, formed early 2008 with the mandate to exclusively service the SAS public sector clients, has been growing from strength to strength. Moodley's appointment is further commitment by the company to expand the efforts within the government sector and provide clients access to skills and resources that understand their business.

“We are very pleased to welcome Kroshlen to the public sector team,” says Desan Naidoo, general manager of the Public Sector division at SAS. “He brings with him years of experience working in a number of government departments and agencies, and over his time at SAS, has built a keen understanding of the company, its products and services, and is able to meld these to the benefits our solutions can offer our public sector clients.”

Moodley, who joined SAS early last year as the strategic account manager on the Eskom account, held previous senior positions at the State Information Technology Agency (SITA). His last position at the agency was as the senior manager for IT consulting, where he established the IT Solution Delivery division by developing a new strategy, which resulted in the implementation of the current structure, processes and methodologies. His portfolio also included working on the geographic information systems (GIS), enterprise content management (ECM), business intelligence (BI), and the development of the agency's open source Web-based applications and portals.

Moodley also held positions as senior manager for strategic consulting and architecture services. As a senior business consultant, working on SITA's MSP-in-a-box implementation, Moodley's key achievement was the development of the IT strategy and plan for Parliament in 2004. Prior to joining SITA, he worked as a senior business analyst for Telkom and as a systems engineer at EDS. He holds a BCOM in Business Information Systems and Economics, as well as an MBL specialising in Business Process Re-engineering, Project Management and Electronic Commerce. He has received his TOGAF certification from the Open Group Architecture Forum, and also has certifications in ITIL and COBIT.

“I am looking forward to working within the public sector as it is an industry I understand well,” states Moodley. “I want to actively build and grow the reputation of SAS among government departments, as the first company they call when they need to solve citizen centric problems, position SAS as an affordable and reliable enabler of service delivery through the deployment of business performance management, business analytics and data integration solutions and inform the industry about our own support of open standards.”

“The local public sector has often been seen by technology companies as a dumping ground for solutions, where business requirements of government departments are not fully understood before technology is pitched to them. I want to show national, provincial and local departments that SAS is different in its approach and is willing to partner with them to better understand and enable their business requirements.”
