IBM has chosen SA for the location of its new Integrated Delivery Centre (IDC) that has been set up as part of moves towards more globally integrated operations.
IBM SA says the establishment of the IDC at its Sandton head office will highlight local expertise in handling contact and support centre applications for IBM clients around the world.
"This will involve South Africans to be primarily involved in skills transfer by helping organisations in Europe with technical support and should result in about 700 jobs by the end of the year," says David Brooks, IBM`s integrated service delivery executive.
Brooks says SA was chosen as a location primarily because of the country`s language skills and skills in customer care, mainframe computing, networking, servers and PCs.
"We believe the IDC is another opportunity for people in SA as we raise the skills profile of the IT workforce to meet the requirements of international customers."
