KeyTools today launched its latest application, PIM Exchange, an application initially targeted at a range of Sony Ericsson and Nokia mobile phones and `smart` phones.
Using KeyTools` unique TransPhormer technology, the initial release of PIM Exchange provides a backup capability on a server for the critical fields of the address book the cellphone user has on his/her handheld device.
Today`s mobile phones and PDAs are designed to capture and store ever more useful data. Although it is a good idea to backup such information to a PC/laptop as precaution for loss of the device, this is not always done.
PIM Exchange provides a reliable and economic way to ensure that all the contact details stored on the mobile device can be retrieved (even on a replacement device and/or SIM card) the very next time the user has a connection.
PIM Exchange stores the mobile data on a secure managed server. This data is always accessible via the mobile device when a mobile connection can be made, or via a Web connection using a PC or laptop for viewing this data once backed up, as well as `add`, `edit` and `delete` functions allowing for ease of data management. The Web interface uses the same username and password as would be used on the mobile device.
Thus with PIM (Personal Information Management) Exchange, even if the phone/PDA is lost (or the information is lost due to complete battery discharge) while away from the office, contact details can be exchanged to the replacement phone/PDA even with a new SIM card installed.
"Users are often losing or damaging their `cellphones` and bemoaning the lack of an appropriate backup capability," commented Richard Chalk, Founder and CEO of KeyTools International. "This new capability will be a boon to hundreds of individuals at a nominal cost.
"Options to extend this software to other ranges of cellphones is planned, as is the capability to extend the backup capabilities to other stored information on the mobile device," concluded Chalk.
Apart from specific mobile applications such as GlobalOrder, KeyAssess, KeyGold, KeyLife and mobiSCAN; KeyTools has also developed TransPhormer, a browser-independent remote data transfer protocol, which is loaded onto a dedicated server or within a partition of an existing server and is fully scalable. It allows information to be transferred with reduced connectivity time, reduced security risk, reduced data throughput and increased accuracy to a PDA, eg palmtop, laptop and certain smart phones. When activated, TransPhormer enables data transmission via GPRS/GSM, HSCSD, or Bluetooth technologies, between the PDA and a company`s server that is hooked into its database, eg ERP, CRM, support and financial, therefore making mobile application commerce a realistic and cost-effective proposition.
