Kingston broadens PC Card storage family to include type II form factor for PDAs and digital cameras

Johannesburg, 02 Feb 2000

Kingston Technology has taken another step towards solving the growing need for portable high capacity storage with the launch of its DataPak 260, a PC Card II compliant hard disk drive with a 260MB native capacity.

"The popularity of handheld devices is driving the electronic industry to develop high capacity storage," says Patrick Reeves, mobile communications product manager at local Kingston distributor, AXiZ.

"Kingston`s objective in evolving high-capacity storage cards is to provide consumers the flexibility to store more images, MP3 files and information. With the proliferation of PC Card slots and DataPak`s large storage capacity, users get more of what they want from their digital devices."

Kingston is committed to providing affordable digital storage as the trend continues toward higher capacity Type II drives. DataPak 260 consumes a mere 15 milli-amps of power in both sleep and standby mode, and only 350 milli-amps in access mode. With the low power draw feature, DataPak offers users the valuable advantage of longer battery life for their digital devices.

The DataPak 260 utilises many advantages of the PC Card standard, including portability, and hot swapping.

Kingston`s DataPak product family addresses the increasing storage needs for the portable-computing environment. DataPak is a Type III compatible PC Card hard disk drive with compact dimensions of 10.4mm x 53.3mm x 83.8mm. DataPak conforms to the PC Card standard and makes storage upgrades fast and easy.

With its miniature design and large capacities (available in 520MB and 1GB uncompressed capacities), DataPak is small enough to fit into a shirt pocket and large enough to store one`s whole suite of applications and files. DataPak effectively allows for unlimited storage on PC Card Type III equipped portable systems as well as providing transportability to other PC Card compatible systems and digital devices.

"Kingston brings these many benefits affordable to the average consumer, combining high performance and quality," adds Reeves. "DataPak offers the most cost-effective PC Card hard disk drive available today."
