Kingston launches Advanced Validation Labs

Johannesburg, 25 May 2000

Kingston Technology Company, has announced that it has formed a new company, Advanced Validation Labs, Inc (AVL), to provide validation services for new, high-speed memory technologies, in conjunction with Intel Corporation.

In addition, the increasing breadth of testing offerings by Kingston has justified the formation of a new independent company. AVL will aim to provide a "one-stop" validation service to help DRAM manufacturers, PC OEMs, motherboard manufacturers, system integrators, and module manufacturers bring their products to market quicker.

"The launch of Advanced Validation Labs will aid in bringing new memory technologies, such as Rambus, PC133, and in the future, DDR, to market sooner," says Ian Rayner, Kingston product manager at AXiZ. "Kingston`s plans are to launch AVL first in the U.S. in Q2, and then in Taiwan and Europe in Q3."

The launch of Advanced Validation Labs worldwide will support the computer industry in propelling the ramp of new memory technologies. The one-stop validation service, encompassing memory devices through system validation, will enable faster time-to-market and ensure tighter compatibility between validated products.

"Kingston`s goal in working with Intel on the establishment of this lab is to make the validation process easier for all customers, while helping to reduce costs through the consolidation of services," adds Rayner.

"For example, AVL can offer DRAM manufacturers comprehensive validation services. AVL can validate the new DRAM devices; if the devices pass, then AVL can immediately proceed with the required module electrical and system validation testing. The time-savings alone will aid in strategic decision-making, such as the critical decision to initiate wafer starts to start volume production of the new DRAMs."

Assuming technical leadership of AVL will be Larry Ho, who will be the director of technical labs. Mr. Ho has worked in the industry for over 20 years. Ho founded Kingston`s Memory Technology Lab in 1998. The Memory Technology Lab has provided over 200 OEM and Rambus-related validation services in 1999 alone.
