Knowledge Architects expands packaged business solutions

Following the launch of its Intranet-in-a-Box offering earlier this year Lotus solutions provider, Knowledge Architects, is broadening its scope of ready-to-use applications to include help desks and human resources management.

The shrink-wrapped solutions, each based on the Lotus Domino server and several custom software applications, are designed to meet a company`s basic needs and then be adapted once the infrastructure is established.

Gary Swale, director of Knowledge Architects, says the market is welcoming the opportunity to purchase a product simple enough to be deployed by in-house IT staff but flexible enough to allow consultants to adapt it for particular requirements.

"Many organisations realise their HR could be better managed, or customer service enhanced with a help desk. However, they have been hard pushed to find a business solution that does not require a massive capital investment.

"The `in-a-box` series is designed specifically for these companies - whether they be Soho, SME or a large corporate. Knowledge architects can sell the package `as is` and, if need be, offer consulting service options."

Help-Desk-in-a-Box uses Lotus Domino to provide an intranet- or Internet-based help desk, accessible via a standard browser. It also employs a series of Notes workflow applications for problem resolution, thereby automating the process of customer service.

Human-Resources-in-a-Box provides a networked solution for managing the needs of employees. Using Lotus Domino, staff and third party vendors - such as insurance consultants or pension companies - can access the HR system via the Internet/intranet, if security clearance is granted.

HR departments can post company policies and procedures to the intranet or the Web, easing the burden of disseminating key information to the rank and file. Interactive services - recruiting, training and company medical benefits, for example - are also possible with Human-Resources-in-a-Box.

Steve Dunbar, marketing manager at Lotus Development, says the South African market has lacked solutions of this nature. "This is due to a lack of vendor awareness and skill within the channel," he explains.

Swale says Knowledge Architects is not only focusing on selling these products directly to the end-user but training distributors and resellers so real value can be added.

"We are looking to make it as easy and inexpensive as possible for companies to make the leap to a comprehensive IT solution. That means taking products like the `in-a-box` series, offering the distribution channel extra support and making the end user aware of our consulting capabilities."
