Kodak sues Panasonic, JVC

Kodak has sued Matsushita, the maker of Panasonic and JVC, for allegedly infringing on four of Kodak's digital camera patents, reports Dealerscope.

The infringed patents include digital camera features of image compression, digital storage and multi-format storage.

Kodak is requesting judgment to stop Matsushita and its subsidiaries from further patent infringement, as well as unspecified compensation.

Printing a hazard

Laser printers could be emitting high levels of potentially hazardous particles, according to a study published today, reports LA Times.

Some printers released almost as many ultra-fine particles as a smouldering cigarette, the study's authors said.

There have been few studies on the health hazards of printing. The current research, appearing in the journal Environmental Science and Technology, provides the most extensive look yet at particle emissions of office printers, including Canon, Hewlett-Packard, Ricoh and Toshiba models. The researchers did not analyse what the particles consisted of.

Adobe offers enterprise imaging

Adobe has introduced the Adobe LiveCycle Enterprise Suite (ES) in the Middle East to help businesses and governments engage more effectively with their customers, partners and suppliers, reports CpiLive.

LiveCycle ES provides improved data output capabilities, and offers rights management, document certification and digital signatures capabilities to help organisations protect sensitive information.

Jacob Alex, Adobe's Middle East channel manager, confirms LiveCycle ES "enables a new class of customer engagement applications that easily connect people inside and outside organisations to internal information and processes". He says the solution will also help improve "the efficiency of regional e-government operation and enable faster transition to knowledge-based economies".
