Johannesburg, 03 Oct 2008

Bidvest company Konica Minolta South Africa will be sponsoring the bizhub Highveld Lions cricket team for the third consecutive year, after renewing its R2.2 million commitment for the 2008/2009 season.

"We are most grateful to Konica Minolta South Africa for its continued sponsorship," says Alan Kourie, CEO of Gauteng Cricket. "Its relationship with co-sponsor 94.7 has been very successful and all parties involved with the bizhub Highveld Lions work closely together and are kept informed at all times. Konica Minolta South Africa has always provided assistance to us whenever it is required."

As part of the sponsorship, Konica Minolta South Africa will continue to support the Lions Cricket Academy in Potchefstroom, which serves as an important bridging opportunity between amateur and professional cricket and aims to develop aspiring young players. Between 12 and 18 players from Gauteng and North West province are selected annually with the objective of improving them physically, mentally and tactically, focusing on technical abilities, life style, life skills and other essentials regarding sport law and handling the media.

According to Jacques Faul, General Manager: bizhub Highveld Lions, the academy has enjoyed a most successful winter season. "We would like to extend our gratitude to Konica Minolta South Africa, in that it is enabling us to mould the cricket stars of the future," he says.

"Konica Minolta South Africa holds its association with the bizhub Highveld Lions in high esteem and is extremely proud of the good work done at the academy," adds Janine Ferreira, Konica Minolta South Africa public relations officer. "We trust that our involvement can only help contribute to the legacy of South African cricket."

The bizhub Highveld Lions' season kicks off with a four day Supersport match against the Warriors at Liberty Life Wanderers Stadium on 2 October 2008. The 2008/2009 spell will include five one-day matches, five Pro 20 matches and ten four-day matches.
