Konica Minolta unveils range of high-performance colour laser printers with magicolor 5500 series

Johannesburg, 24 Apr 2007

Konica Minolta Printing Solutions Europe has introduced its magicolor 5500 series range of colour laser printers.

From medium-sized workgroups to the enterprise, the range is ideally designed to meet the needs of even the most demanding office environments. Its advanced printing technology offers unsurpassed print quality and efficiency, to vastly improve printer uptime.

Breakthrough technology provides complete cost control

Due to its pioneering 3-object segmentation and new ASIC technology, the magicolor 5500 series can differentiate between text, graphics and images, giving it the ability to automatically maximise toner efficiency. As a result, customers can save up to 50% toner without compromising print quality.

"Konica Minolta's focus is to increase the presence of its colour laser printers in the enterprise market by providing solutions that meet the complex needs of our customers," says Ian Revell, country manager: SA, Konica Minolta Printing Solutions. "With its groundbreaking innovations, the magicolor 5500 series goes beyond the limits by delivering customers superior quality and performance while contributing to a lower total cost of ownership."

Print quality, durability that rivals offset printing

Simitri HD, Konica Minolta's next generation of polymerised toner, offers superior print quality and durability that rivals offset printing.

Commercial material will last longer due to its increased resistance to withstand UV light and peeling that can occur when documents are folded. Combined with PhotoArt-9600 (600x600 4-bit contone resolution) technology, it delivers accurately gradated printouts in stunning colour. Simitri HD polymerised toner operates at a much lower temperature, saving up to 15% more energy, which also significantly reduces paper jams, resulting in increased business productivity. Due to its specific manufacturing process, it emits 40% less CO2, NOx and SOx than conventional pulverised toners.

Seamless integration

Konica Minolta's next generation Emperon 4 technology provides ultimate compatibility with major printing languages (PostScript 3, PCL 6), operating systems, business applications (SAP, Citrix Metaframe), as well as PDF and JPEG/TIFF direct print emulation (also from USB memory stick). The result is quick document processing from virtually any office, design, publishing and other applications.

Easy printer management

As with all Konica Minolta Emperon products, a comprehensive array of printer management tools, PageScope Suite, are included, providing a convenient way for users and system administrators to manage and configure both printers and MFPs in the local business network and remotely. Important information such as real-time supply status and troubleshoot details can be monitored from virtually anywhere, using a Web browser.

Additional plug-ins are available for HP Openview, IBM Tivoli NetView, CA Unicenter and Microsoft Management Console. The magicolor 5500 series is available in two models:

Magicolor 5570

Due to its high print speed of 30ppm colour and 35ppm monochrome and processing power, the magicolor 5570 is well suited in any workgroup, design or other heavy duty environments where high-quality and fast output are essential. A PowerPC 867MHz processor and 256MB RAM are built in, which enables it to handle heavy print jobs with great ease for even the most critical power user.

Magicolor 5550

With 25.6ppm in colour and 30ppm in monochrome, the magicolor 5550 brings high performance with added versatility to the professional user. It has a PowerPC 733MHz processor and 256MB RAM.

Options:

The magicolor 5500 series has an optional 2-bin staple finisher, which can staple (at a 45o angle) and sort documents just like a copier. The standard 600-sheet paper capacity can be increased to a maximum of 1 600 sheets.

With an (optional) hard disk drive, users can enjoy advanced features, such as security printing, which allows documents to remain confidential by delaying output until a personal password is typed in. Features such as staple finisher, downloading fonts, job accounting and overlays are also available after installing a compact flash card (optional).
