Konica/Itec has been awarded a contract to sponsor digital copiers and faxes to be used during the UN World Summit on Sustainable Development. The units were installed within 48 hours of the sponsorship deal being signed.
Konica/Itec is the local distributor of the Konica brand. Konica/Itec CEO Jacques Duyver says all digital copiers and faxes will be on loan to the organisers for the duration of the summit.
Digital copiers have already been placed at various venues within and around the Sandton Convention Centre to help fulfil the 10 million per day copy/print requirement that the Johannesburg World Summit Company (Jowsco) estimates will be made throughout the summit. Some 100 fax units have also been placed in strategic areas.
The sponsorship deal was signed on Tuesday, and Konica was given 48 hours turnaround time to deliver and install.
Says Duyver: "It is a compliment to our staff and the Konica product that this was achievable. UN members, delegates, NGOs, media and hundreds of non-governmental organisations and multi-national corporations will make use of the digital copier and fax units."
The units will be maintained and supported by Konica technical consultants with additional support staff on standby for the duration of the summit.
"Konica/Itec is the fastest growing office document solutions company in SA," he says, "and we have tripled our market share since inception. To be recognised and made an official sponsor for a summit of this magnitude and complexity, is a significant achievement for us as we strive to promote and achieve social development, commitment and environmental awareness."
Duyver says Konica/Itec was selected as a summit sponsor because Jowsco felt the company could rise to the demand of such a pressured brief. In addition, Konica business machines have won German Blue Angel Mark certification since 1992 and Japan Eco mark certification since 1999.
Konica is also an active participant in the "Energy Star Programme" and all group manufacturing facilities produce business machines and consumables that are ISO 14001 certified. Based on the development of Konica`s own concept for an Environmental Management System, the company actively practises an environmental management programme.
