Fitting RJ-45 keystone jacks into the shallow back boxes and trunking preferred by UK installers has always been a difficult task. The large bend radius required for Category 6 cable has made this all the more difficult. Until now.
After extensive development, Krone has announced a component compliant Cat 6 version of the industry`s favourite outlet jack - the "CL".
Even allowing for the greater bend radius of Cat 6 cables, the CL requires less than 35mm depth and so fits easily in standard UK back boxes, low profile trunking and shallow floor boxes.
Launching the new PremisNET Cat 6 CL jack, Kevin Anderson, Krone`s Cat 6 product manager, said: "Installers have been clamouring for a Cat 6 version of the CL jack. Achieving Cat 6 performance from such a low profile component is no mean feat and has required very significant R&D investment, particularly as Krone is committed to producing only fully component compliant devices."
Sales of the CL jack have always outnumbered all other Krone RJ-45 jacks and Anderson believes the Cat 6 CL will be just as popular. "Its key attributes are its low profile, its total flexibility and modularity," he says.
The new Cat 6 CL is available in unshielded and shielded versions and can be used with all existing Krone Cat 5e CL accessories including the single, double, quad LJ6C-style faceplates, UK style faceplates and euro-style faceplates, all compatible with either a flush or 45^0 adapter.
The introduction of the Cat 6 CL jack means that Krone`s 6, 8, 10 and 12 way distribution boxes and 16 port CL patch panel are all now available in Cat 6 component compliant forms - both unshielded and shielded formats. As with all components in Krone Cat 6 solutions, the CL jack is fully interoperable with other manufacturers component compliant products and is fully backward compatible with Cat 5e components.
"Component compliance," reminds Anderson, "for every component in the network is the only way to be sure of true end-to-end Cat 6 performance. Most manufacturers only have link or channel certification - and then only for a few sample configurations, not the complete range of permutations that exist in the field. Every Krone product is component compliant."
