Computerised maintenance specialists PRAGMA has added the Kroondal platinum mine near Rustenburg to its list of mining clients. Contractor Minopex has installed the locally developed ON KEY system, a PRAGMA Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS), for the mine.

PRAGMA and Minopex see the industrial market as a significant growth sector. "The outsourcing of processing operations is the way not only the coal industry but the whole South African mining industry is going," says Minopex GM Tony Riley. He admits that not all plants lend themselves to such systems, but believes it is worth investigating the cost saving benefits.

Minopex says it is considering a roll-out of ON KEY to other clients.

The On Key product is used to manage inventory and decrease stock holding. It uses a graphical user interface in the Windows environment to present a user-friendly appearance. The software will be integrated with existing systems at Kroondal and offer a full solution, which will be managed by Minopex.

Other mines using PRAGMA products include the majority of the Samancor plants, Kloof Goldmine and Highveld Steel`s Mapochs mine.
