Khanyisa Real Systems (KRS) today announces the launch of its Upgrade Yourself skills development programme in answer to South Africa's skills shortage in the ICT arena and has begun its call for job applicants passionate about a career in IT.
The focus of the programme, which kicks off in July, is to skill up employable developers who graduate with an internationally-recognised Microsoft qualification enabling them to take their first step towards a rock-solid, well-paid career in IT software development.
"KRS, amongst many other organisations, is also feeling the impact of the skills shortage. The aim of the programme is to skill up suitable candidates to employ, either at KRS or within the wider ICT industry," says Steve Randles, MD of KRS.
Based on-site at KRS, the Upgrade Yourself programme draws on the company's 20 years of experience and combines the hottest technical skills with a solid platform of work experience.
The course will model the real-world business environment with experienced project leaders, providing lectures and mentoring. There will also be regular opportunity for interaction between the students as they work in teams on actual client projects.
The first half of the one-year Upgrade Yourself programme builds a foundation of Microsoft.Net programming and database skills focused on Microsoft C# and Microsoft SQL Server. This is reinforced with practical exercises followed by a six-month internship with KRS, a unique, hands-on experience as part of a software project team.
"We are not simply providing students with a huge toolbox or dictionary of programming languages, but also giving them the hands-on, 'how to build' experience of putting the toolbox to work on real systems enterprise projects," says Steve.
"It's important that these projects are fresh, fun and inspirational," adds Steve. "So, we are looking at practical applications that could include building service-oriented architecture (SOA) to enable connectivity between an SMS gateway and other communication devices and applications."
The course will also teach business acumen like time management and basic accounting which form an important component of commercial enterprise systems.
Over and above the training and work experience, students will also learn about accuracy, quality, completing projects to set deadlines, teamwork, consistency, dealing with constructive feedback, sometimes dealing with failure, and making changes to meet client or management expectations.
"We invite matriculants and other individuals who are computer literate and have a passion for a career in IT to contact us for an initial assessment," says Steve. For more information, call +27 21 797 5454 or visit http://www.upgradeyourself.co.za/
