Kyocera Mita South Africa launches new KM-4530, KM-5530 digital multifunctionals

Johannesburg, 21 May 2002

Kyocera Mita South Africa`s KM-4530 and KM-5530 up to A3 multifunctional copiers set new standards in the document management industry. They offer top quality for departments and can also be used as production multifunctionals when working in the tandem configuration.

The new machines, available from May 2002, are a clear demonstration of how research and development into the key purchasing factors of document management products are a priority at Kyocera Mita.

Low total cost of ownership, where Kyocera Mita is a recognised leader, is achieved using long-life components - including the hard-wearing drum - and long-life toner kits offering 36 000 A4 copies at the industry norm of 5% coverage.

The new KM-4530 and KM-5530 are more than highly advanced and efficient digital copiers. The Kyocera Mita printer controller - common to all Kyocera Mita printers and multifunctionals - is an option that opens up new opportunities within the office environments, and provides seamless integration of both copying and printing tasks.

The KM-4530`s drum/developer guarantees up to 400 000 pages of smooth and reliable operation, while the KM-5530 will make the same guarantee up to 500 000 pages. Both devices have a 20GB hard disk and a paper capacity of 3 700 sheets. The maximum for the KM-5530 is 7 700 sheets.

Main features

The laser-based, digital multifunctional copiers offer copying speeds of 45 and 55 copies per minute in A4 and 24 and 20 copies per minute in A3. The products offer high quality of 600 x 600 dpi in 256 greyscales for the scan and copy mode as well as 1200dpi with Fast 1200 and 2 400 x 600 dpi with KIR2 in the print mode. The duty cycle per month is 160 000 pages per month for the KM-4530 and 240 000 pages per month for the KM-5530.

With a life of between 400 000 and 500 000 A4 pages for the copier/printer drum and developer, and a standard paper capacity of 3 700 sheets the KM-4530 and KM-5530 lead the medium to high speed copying sector in both long-life and low total cost of ownership.

The first copy time is 3.9 seconds or less. As standard both models offer 128MB memory for storing bitmaps for copy or print jobs. In addition they have a built-in 20GB for image storage, which provide seamless integration of print or copy jobs.

Further features include an energy-save mode, EcoPrint mode, duplex up to 120g/m2, form overlay and page numbering. Ease of use is implemented by offering three customised short cut keys for frequently used functions.

Print/scan functions

Both models can be upgraded to become high-class multifunctional copiers offering additional print and scanning possibilities.

The printing system offers a PowerPC 750, 400MHz CPU with 32MB including ECOmemory as standard, with two additional slots capable of accepting 128MB each, adding up to a total memory option of 288MB. Seven standard emulations include among others PCL6 and KPDL3, Postscript Level 3 compatible emulation.

The supported fonts include 80 outline fonts (PCL6), 1 Bitmap font, 136 outline fonts (KPDL3), 45 types of one-dimensional barcode, and the PDF-417 two-dimensional barcode. Kyocera Mita`s embedded network interface is standard with the Fast Ethernet interfaces 10-Base T, and 100-Base TX, with Kyocera Mita`s IB-21E. There is also a range of optional interfaces including SB-140 (10-Base-2/10-Base T/100-Base TX), SB-60 TokenRing, and SB-110FX Fibreoptics.

Setting and checking the status of both devices on the network is possible using the printer management software KM-NET VIEWER. Paper and toner levels can be checked via the network from any PC, which allows easy and efficient management of the order/stock of consumables.

With the Kyocera Mita page design and control language PRESCRIBE IIe, even complex graphics, logos and standard forms can be created independently of the system and stored on the printer`s memory device such as CompactFlash or hard disk. They are only accessed as required and therefore relieve the workload on the network.

The optional scan function up to A3 size offers functions such as Scan-to-PC, scan-to-mail or network TWAIN. The scanning speed of the KM-5530 is 62 originals per minute. For the KM-4530 the scanning speed in 600dpi is 50 originals per minute. Resolutions are available in 600, 400, 300 or 200dpi for text, photos, text and photo or OCR mode.

File types include TIFF and PDF formats. As standard software both multifunctional products ship with Scanner File Utility, Address Book, Address Editor, TWAIN source and document binding software PaperPort DeLuxe.

Optional memory for the printing system (Q) is enabled by installing the hard disk HD-4 with 6.0GB storage capacity for data, forms, fonts or eMPS functionality. Either in addition or as an alternative, CompactFlash cards can be installed for the storage of macros, fonts, logos or signatures.

Paper handling Operators of the KM-4530 who wish to enhance multifunctionality can choose either the DF-600 or DF-610 document finishers. The DF-600 handles up to 2 000 sheets and has a multi position stapling function for up to 50 sheets. The DF-600 can also be upgraded with an MT-1 mailbox, which has 5-bins, holding 200 sheets in each bin.

The DF-610 handles up to 3 000 sheets in the main tray and will also staple up to 50 sheets. It offers four different modes of stapling including booklet stapling. The DF-610 can be upgraded with the MT-1 multitray mailbox, the BF-1 booklet folding option for 16-sheet up to 200g/m2, and/or the PH-3C punch hole unit for two or four holes.

The KM-5530 can be enhanced with the DF-610 document finisher allowing further options, such as the MT-1, BF-1 or PH-3C. In addition the KM-5530 can be upgraded with an ST-11 high capacity paper feeder holding 4 000 sheets A4, 64-80 g/m2, enlarging the total capacity to 7 700 sheets.

Design

In line with other Kyocera Mita document management products, both the KM-4530 and KM-5530 have been designed for the office environment. Their dimensions are 680mm x 804mm and they stand 1 141mm high, with a total weight of 189kg. Both are also available in the new design series using sharpened strong lines and midnight blue with silver-topped keys.

The new KM-4530 and KM-5530 from Kyocera Mita introduce new levels of excellence to the document management market. Not only are they the most productive and reliable digital copiers/printers, but also the long-life components and advanced design offer the lowest possible total cost of ownership.
