Leading Edge Solutions, a subsidiary of the JSE Securities Exchange-listed management consultancy and IT firm Labat Group, has been appointed by Labat Software Solutions as the sub-Saharan Africa distributor for the Advanced BusinessLink product, Strategi.
Strategi is a native IBM iSeries resident middleware platform that combines Web and application serving from separate systems, with menus and commands available as command language instructions for use in custom-designed programs.
"Strategi offers companies the business advantage of leveraging their existing investments in IBM iSeries and AS/400," says Mark Alexander, MD of Labat Software Solutions. "It allows organisations to modernise and Web-enable their existing applications according to business requirements and their unique technology specifications."
The Advanced BusinessLink product was specifically designed for the IBM iSeries server and conforms to the security standards applied in iSeries. Access to the Strategi platform requires an access name and pass phrase. iSeries sign-on screens can be bypassed with automatic logon, thus removing any opportunity for users to try different user identification and password combinations that may gain them unauthorised access.
"The pass phrase that is required to gain access to the Strategi platform is significantly more secure than a password," says Selven Chetty, MD of Leading Edge Solutions. "A pass phrase can contain spaces, which allows users to choose several words or a complete sentence rather than being confined to just one word. A sentence is far harder to crack than a password."
Features of the Strategi platform include all the administrative tools required to manage users, user groups, Web sites, aliases, security and communication between hosts. The Webmaster is a PC-based tool that enables a developer to work with a Web site on a local PC rather than in an integrated file system on the iSeries.
PushFeed functionality allows users to receive iSeries output, reports or files through their browser or directly to their printer. This function can be run interactively for automated distribution to users and user groups, providing a full audit trail of all reports and files that have been distributed.
"The graphical user interface allows an iSeries or AS/400 application to run in a browser with the same look and feel as the corporate Web site," Chetty says. "High-speed messaging allows developers to produce interactive Web applications while leveraging existing legacy skills and application code."
Leading Edge Solutions was founded in October 2002 to provide a focused and dedicated approach to Labat Group`s locally developed product, BPCS HiVolume. The company has been working in the BPCS market since 1995 and has been working with BPCS HiVolume since its inception in 1999.
The creator of Strategi, Advanced BusinessLink, is an Australian boutique Web-to-host software developer.
