Lafarge Cements relationship with STT

Johannesburg, 09 Jan 2001

Leading cement company, Lafarge South Africa, has contracted Software Training Technology (STT) to provide advanced simulation based training for their newly installed JD Edwards One World (HTML) system.

Lafarge is the largest cement producer in the world. Lafarge South Africa, a subsidiary of the French company, also produces concrete and aggregates for the construction industry. The company has 4500 employees in 65 locations nationwide.

In December 2000 Lafarge made the decision to install JD Edwards One World (HTML) to replace the existing in-house software. However, training on the new system was haphazard as little documentation existed.

"Lafarge needed to train 100 users from various functionalities. We needed training to be easily be controlled and updated and employ a system where the usage of training modules could be monitored. We were also looking for simulation training that looked and felt like the real thing without compromising the integrity of the data whilst users were in the training cycle," explains Johan Strydom, project manager at Lafarge ZA.

"The training also needed to be cost-effective and quick enough to train in all centres before the go-live date," adds Strydom.

After looking into all the products available, Lafarge ZA found that STT, leading provider of authoring and management tools for simulation software training and support, was the only one that offered a full simulation capability and was suitably cost and time effective.

Established in 1998, STT is one of the forerunners in software simulation for the e-learning marketplace, providing software for the development, deployment and management of software simulation training.

STT`s product suit, comprising of the STT Trainer and STT Manager, has evolved into one of the industry`s more mature and comprehensive software simulation and documentation product suites available, encompassing Authoring, Content Management, Training and Assessment, Documentation, Online Help and Learning Management.

More than 200 multinational companies worldwide use STT products in order to create, deliver and manage simulation training for over 275 000 users on their ERP, CRM, and Web and Windows based applications.

"Lafarge ZA is one of the companies that has implemented STT Trainer on a non-SAP application. Historically STT was "SAP only" but we`ve ported this functionality to other Apps and we`re seeing the fruits of this decision, with existing and new clients also using STT as their preferred training solution on Siebel as well as their own home grown systems," says Lenard Hall, regional sales manager: Africa & Australasia, STT SA.
