Leaf International Communications introduced three new HTC mobile phones to the South African market at an event in Johannesburg this week.

“The company has brought the HTC Touch Diamond2, Snap, and Touch Pro2 to local shores in an effort to compete with other global handset manufacturers and offer South Africans a greater choice of high-end smartphones,” says Leaf CEO Brandon Leigh.

The three phones are all Windows-based, running Windows Mobile 6.1, and include a full touch-phone option. The Touch Diamond2 has an enlarged display and features HTC's enhanced TouchFLO 3D touch technology.

The Snap is a BlackBerry-lookalike device with a four-line qwerty keyboard and a trackball for easy navigation. According to Leaf's marketing director, Stephan Strachan, the Snap's key feature is the 'Inner Circle' button, which instantly prioritises messages from close friends and valued contacts which the user has pre-defined. There is also a dedicated key for quick access to Windows Life Messenger.

The Touch Pro2, featuring a full qwerty slide-out keyboard, is the world's only true mobile conference phone other than Polycom devices, according to Strachan.

The phones are immediately available, but only at limited stores. They will be widely available from 8 August on contract or as a cash purchase. The phones are not locked into any operator, like the HTC Dream and Magic phones released earlier this year.

The recommended prices of the phones range from R5 350 for the HTC Snap to R9 780 for the Touch Pro2, with the Touch Diamond2 set at around R6 500.
