Leaf Wireless today announced the signing of a sole agency agreement with Carrier Devices for the iMate Pocket PCs.
The new iMates set a new standard in multifunction PDA/cellphone devices: built on the Windows Mobile platform, they incorporate tri-band GSM/GPRS voice and data, Bluetooth and infrared; beautifully sharp colour in a touch-sensitive screen, handwriting recognition, synch to Microsoft Outlook, hands-free speaker capability, and the full suite of Microsoft`s Pocket PC versions of Outlook, Word, Excel, Explorer and Media Player.
Quinton Leigh, managing director of Leaf Wireless, who signed the deal in Dubai in May, says: "We are very pleased to be partners for the iMate`s in SA, and have provisions allowing us to expand further into Africa. Leaf`s business is all about wireless technology, and the iMate has covered all the bases. It`s a superb platform for enabling innovation in business, and already we have significant application successes under our belt.
"We believe we are market leaders, and intend to maintain and increase our lead. Brand consolidation and a focus on channel development are key to that goal, and we have achieved that now: all future products from Carrier Devices will be marketed by us under the iMate brand, as the QTek and XDA variants have been discontinued in SA."
Leigh states that devices like the iMate are now moving out of the era of being the toys for technocrats and senior managers, and are entering the mainstream of business applications, a trend evidenced by strong and steady growth in demand. Leaf, with an experienced team of application developers and several successful deployments under its belt, is positioned to support businesses venturing into mobile applications.
Leigh adds: "It`s not good enough to say `there`s the wood, there`s the hammer and nails, build your dog shed. Time to market is critically important given the pace of innovation from your competitors: we can supply the tools, and we can supply complete solution."
Carrier Devices is headquartered in UAE, where they relocated in June 2003 to bring focus to their strategy of `think global and act local`. They have gone from strength to strength since their founding in 2001, and in February 2003 they launched the first worldwide standard accreditation and certification service for mobile applications and devices.
