Legal threat over 'toxic` iPhone

Environmentalists have threatened to sue Apple if it does not make its iPhone a "greener" product, or tell consumers of the toxins allegedly used in the device`s manufacture, reports Times Online.

The Centre for Environmental Health, a campaign group based in California, said it would begin a lawsuit in 60 days unless Apple took action.

The threat comes after a report by Greenpeace, the environmental organisation, which alleged the iPhone contained dangerous levels of bromine, chlorine and phthalates - chemicals used to increase the flexibility of plastic.

HTC launches Touch phone

Sprint Nextel plans to sell a touch-screen phone from Taiwan`s High Tech Computer (HTC) this holiday season, hoping to help stem losses to Apple`s iPhone, which is only available from AT&T, states Reuters.

Like iPhone, HTC`s Touch - set to go on sale on 4 November - lets users surf the Web or navigate their photo albums by moving their fingers across a touch-sensitive screen. At $249.99, Touch has a lower price tag than iPhone`s $399.

Current Analysis analyst Avi Greengart said the Touch would not sway determined iPhone fans, but he expects the pricing to give Sprint, the number two US mobile , a fighting chance.

PS3 UK sales surge

According to Chart Track, PlayStation 3 (PS3) sales in the UK have increased by 178% for the week ending 13 October. This sales surge follows the introduction of the 40GB model and Sony cutting the price of the 60BG bundle on 10 October, says el33online.com.

The increase has led to the PS3 experiencing its third-strongest week since the console was launched in the UK on 23 March. The first and second strongest weeks were the first two weeks after the PS3 was launched. The sales surge places it ahead of the Xbox 360, but still behind the Nintendo DS and Wii.

Despite the 40GB model lacking PS2 backwards compatibility and a few other functions, the reduced price tag of £299 appears to be making it more attractive to UK gamers. The 60GB model bundle with two first party games and a Sixaxis controller was reduced to £349.

Yahoo accused of misleading Congress

Yahoo misled Congress regarding information the company gave to Chinese authorities about the journalist Shi Tao, Democratic Rep Tom Lantos said Tuesday.

According to CNN, Yahoo officials have been asked to testify before a House committee in November about a Chinese journalist`s case.

Lantos, a California representative and chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, asked Yahoo officials to testify about the company`s role in a case that sent Chinese newspaper writer and editor Shi to prison in a 10-year sentence.
