Lenovo aims for consumers

Lenovo recently introduced its first consumer desktop PC outside of China. It is called the Lenovo IdeaCentre K210 and pricing starts at around $380 post rebate, depending upon configuration, says Slippery Brick.

The Lenovo IdeaCentre K210, which doesn't ship with a monitor, is powered by an Intel Core 2 Quad processor and Intel GMA 3100 integrated graphics. It also offers the option of a Blu-ray/HD-DVD combo drive and 5.1 surround sound support.

Other features of the K210 include the option to upgrade to an ATI Radeon 2600 XT, technology for detecting how far away a user is from the monitor and adjusting the brightness accordingly, and facial recognition technology for logging into the computer. It is available now.

Seagate releases 1.5TB

Seagate Technology introduced a 3.5-inch desktop PC drive with 1.5 TB, and a notebook drive with says eeTimes.

The Barracuda 7200.11, which is shipping in August, uses four platters with 375 GB per platter. The news comes just days after rival Hitachi Global Storage Technologies rolled out a 1TB drive using just three platters with 333GB per platter.

Seagate currently leads the pack of hard-drive makers with a 35% market share followed by Western at 23%, according to IDC.

Asus expands Eee

Asus is fleshing out its rapidly expanding Eee brand with an all-in-one Eee Monitor desktop PC, says TechCentral.ie.

'Official' product shots of the device appeared on the French-language site Blogeee.net suggesting that the Eee Monitor comes with a 19" or 20" screen, a Web cam, two USB ports and a card reader.

The back of the device sports four USB, two Ethernet and three audio ports, and a 3.5mm video-out socket in place of a VGA port.
