Lenovo has revealed that its much-anticipated enterprise tablet PCs will arrive in the South African channel as early as next week.
Deshan Govender, Lenovo's Think notebook product manager for Middle East and Africa, made this announcement during last week's Lenovo Mobile SME Executive Forum, presented in partnership with ITWeb, in Sandton.
Lenovo's tablets for the consumer market, the IdeaPads, are designed mainly around multimedia and entertainment, says Govender. These arrived in SA last month, but are still rolling out to market. The ThinkPad Android 3.1 tablets for business are expected to arrive in the channel next week.
He says the latest additions are expected to do exceptionally well in the local market, and adds that Lenovo is very pleased to be in a position to offer mobile computing devices in every space - from seven-inch tablets through to laptops.
Govender says the ThinkPad tablets will be competitively priced, and have been designed with business in mind - with an extra focus on security and rugged build - and come with a built-in tablet pen for contract signatures and taking notes. With USB and mini-USB ports, as well as a native mini-HDMI port, business users can connect the tablet to other devices and run a presentation or video at the same time.
Govender told the Forum that entrepreneurs who own and run SMEs tend to do their business on the move. He said with cloud computing having moved beyond hype, technology is now widely available to enable them to run their businesses, and stay connected and up to date, saving time and cutting down on overheads.
