Lenovo debuts new Z-Series notebook - redefines mobility and functionality

Johannesburg, 25 Jan 2006

Tarsus Technologies recently announced the availability of the Lenovo ThinkPad Z-Series notebooks, boasting a design ethos that redefines the market`s concept of mobility and incorporates multimedia functionality that is usable outside of the conventional work-cycle.

"Available in a 15.4- and 14-inch widescreen, these new Z-series notebooks offer 30% more data space than a conventional 15-inch XGA and 25% more than a standard 14-inch XGA screen," explains Pooven Naidoo, Lenovo product assistant at Tarsus Technologies.

"This results in better viewing angles which makes in-flight work more pleasant. Users also have the ability to examine data within two applications simultaneously, or add four additional spreadsheet columns to the viewing area, making the new Z-series the ideal choice for serious mobile warriors that can`t afford to compromise," Naidoo continues.

Nonetheless, the Z-series is not designed to appeal to the `serious` market alone.

Naidoo says the new notebooks include several innovative multimedia features, like hot keys that offer the ability to control multimedia application functionality and ports that can easily upload digital images and video.

"The Z-Series boasts three USB 2.0 ports, a 3-1 media card reading slot and connections for S-Video, VGA and IEEE1394," he adds.

"The Z-Series is thus perfect for both business or home use, and is well suited to customers that require the versatility for presenting, using their multimedia applications and watching DVD movies," he explains.

"As is customary with the ThinkPad brand, users are also guaranteed of the maximum data protection available today, through Lenovo`s implementation of a combined hardware and software strategy.

"On the hardware front, the Z-Series is the first ThinkPad model to feature a new inner armour chassis or `ThinkPad roll cage`, designed to make the notebooks more durable and resistant to physical stress," Naidoo says.

"By mounting internal components, like the hard disk drive in a one-piece magnesium cage that forms a more protective shell than traditional casings without affecting usability, Lenovo has been able to reduce the stress on the Z-Series` internal components by up to 30%," he adds.

This combined with the vendor`s Active Protection System provides a strong defence against costly hard disk damage.

"Lenovo has also taken care of the durability of the widescreen TFT display model by encasing it in a special-edition brushed titanium cover that is scratch-resistant. This not only reduces the weight of the unit, but makes it more robust and visually appealing," Naidoo enthuses.

"With the new Z-Series, Lenovo has not only packed real punch into a value-for-money package, but also proven that a notebook as functional as this can be visually impressive too," Naidoo concludes.
