Lenovo ships 3D laptop

Lenovo has started shipping its 3D notebook, the IdeaPad Y560d, writes AfterDawn News.

The Y560d has a 15.6-inch high-definition screen, and uses TriDef 3D technology software that transforms a standard movie into 3D, and the TriDef Photo Transformer, which turns photos into 3D.

The laptop is configurable with a Core i7 processor running at 1.60Ghz, 4GB of RAM and a 500GB hard disc.

Toshiba unveils dual-screen laptop

Toshiba has unveiled a dual-screen laptop called the Libretto w100, states 24WorldNews.

The Libretto does not have a conventional keyboard, but uses a virtual keyboard on the second screen for input.

The Libretto will compete with the iPad and Kindle, with Toshiba planning to ship the product in Japan by late August.

Notebook players want PSU standardisation

Taiwan-based notebook companies are in favour of standardising power supply units (PSU) after the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) established a team for the initiative, reports DigiTimes.

Manufacturers including Acer, Asustek, Quanta Computer, Compal Electronics, Wistron, Pegatron Technology and Inventec have voiced their support.

The initiative hopes to lower e-waste by enabling one PSU for multiple mobile computing devices, eliminating the need to pay for a new PSU for each new notebook, tablet or netbook purchase.
