Lenovo shows its products` mettle

Scoops Technology Innovation Accelerated award at Intel Developer Forum
Johannesburg, 20 Sep 2005

After only a few months since its acquisition of the IBM PCD operations, Lenovo has already garnered its first major award for an ex-IBM product, collecting top accolades at Intel`s "Technology Innovation Accelerated" awards at the chipmaker`s developer forum held in San Francisco last month.

Says Ron Keschner, general manager of Tarsus`s IBM and general products divisions, Lenovo took the `mobility` and `best of show awards` for its ThinkPad X41 Tablet PC, as well as top accolades in the `digital office` category for its ThinkCentre M52.

"Overall, the awards were tightly contested, with a total of 17 demonstrations vying for recognition," Keschner explains.

"To win two awards out of a total of six categories and then to take a best of show award is no mean feat in anyone`s books," Keschner continues.

Keschner says these accolades are a clear indication that Lenovo is driving innovation and success into its new product lines, bearing testimony to the fact that Lenovo and IBM`s business agreement was a truly sound decision.

"I think the coming months and years will bear even further testimony to this sound business decision, with innovative, cost-reducing and feature-rich products coming down the line."

"Lenovo also has the ability to move the ThinkPad and ThinkCentre back into a leadership position in the client computing market, bringing clear benefits with its critical mass, finely tuned production lines and clear insight into the consumer market, a space that IBM has not actively addressed for some time now."

"Overall, I believe the future holds good things for Lenovo and that the local channel can look forward to truly innovative, industry leading products," Keschner concludes.
