Lenovo unveils all-in-one desktop

Johannesburg, 29 Jun 2012

Lenovo has unveiled its IdeaCentre A720 All-In-One (AIO) desktop, which can be used upright or as a flat-screen computer, depending on whether users are running programs or touch-screen applications.

According to the company, the IdeaCentre A720 AIO has a 27-inch full HD screen with 10-point multi-touch functionality.

The A720 AIO is powered by the latest Intel Core Series processors and Nvidia GeForce graphics, and runs on Windows 7 Home Premium. According to the company, the machine has a 1 920x1 080-pixel resolution and comes with Dolby Home Theatre V4 sound and a 720-pixel HD Web cam.

The Lenovo IdeaCentre A720 also features Enhanced Experience 3 for Windows 7, which uses RapidBoot technology to start up 40% faster than typical Windows 7 computers, according to Lenovo.

High-end dream machine

According to Lenovo, the IdeaCentre A720 AIO won several best desktop awards during the 2012 International Consumer Electronics Show, including Best Desktop from PCMag and PCWorld, and Best All-in-One Desktop PC from Computer Shopper. The company adds that the machine is currently the world's thinnest AIO.

Arthur Goldstuck, MD of World Wide Worx, describes the IdeaCentre A720 AIO as a “dream machine”.

However, he warns that, at its high cost, the A720 will be limited to high-end use. “There is a market for such devices, but it is limited in a country like SA, where IT budgets tend to be very stretched,” he explains. “It certainly does not have much of a consumer market, but will appeal to those who can justify expensive luxuries in their lives.”

Goldstuck also suggests this machine would form a perfect marriage with Windows 8. He predicts that more all-in-one desktops will make their way into the market with the arrival of Windows 8 later this year.

According to Lenovo, the IdeaCentre A720 AIO desktop will be available in SA in August, starting from R18 999.
