Lenovo unveiled its first multimode Yoga Tablet to the local market, at an event in Sandton this week.

The device features three unique modes - hold, tilt and stand - which Lenovo says gives users the option to adapt the device, depending on what they are doing.

"Discovering that people frequently use tablets in three main ways allowed us to exceed expectations of not only what customers need, but what they want, a better way to read, browse, watch and interact with content," said Graham Braum, Lenovo Africa GM.

The Yoga Tablet is available in two sizes - the 8-inch Yoga Tablet 8 or the 10-inch Yoga Tablet 10. The smaller version weighs 400g, while the 10-inch device tips the scales at 600g.

The 10-inch and 8-inch models house MT8125 () and MT8389 Quad Core processors (3G), with either 16GB or 32GB capacity and up to 64GB of total storage via a micro SD expansion slot. The tablet runs on Android 4.2, is equipped with Dolby DS1 audio and front-facing speakers for a surround sound experience, says Lenovo.

Both feature an HD 1 280 x 800 display, with a 5MP auto focus rear facing camera, as well as a front facing camera. The tablet boasts WiFi connectivity, with 3G connectivity available in selected countries.

According to Lenovo, its multimode design means the Yoga Tablet will run for up to 18 hours, depending on usage. The tablet is fitted with batteries typically found in laptops and can be used to charge other devices via a USB on-the-go feature, which requires an additional cable.

A Bluetooth keyboard is available for the 10-inch model, which also functions as a cover for the device. Users in select regions can purchase a WD100 dongle, enabling streaming of video content from the tablet to a TV. Lenovo also offers warranty extensions, upgrades and premium technical support with the Yoga Tablet.

In addition to showcasing the Yoga Tablet, the Chinese tech brand also unveiled "Zuzu", Africa's first Android statue. The name Zuzu was selected by consumers during a social media competition.

"Africa remains a very important growth region for Lenovo and we are committed to expanding our presence, continuously investing resources, technology and in the continent and achieving higher market shares," Braum said.

The Yoga Tablet will be on sale in SA by the end of November, retailing for R3 999 (8-inch) and R4 499 (10-inch). The device will be available at Incredible Connection, Makro and selected HiFi Corp stores nationwide.
