Let`s all get digitised

Johannesburg, 11 Apr 2006

When looking at the digital lifestyle, one cannot help but think that we`ve truly come a long way. So much of our own lives are now enabled through the proliferation of digital gadgets - whether it`s an awesome digital camera or a swanky new MP4 player.

But the digital lifestyle represents so much more than the latest technology gadgets; it`s a conscious simplification of your own lifestyle which is enabled through technology choices that truly suit your daily needs.

Whichever way you look at it, the digital lifestyle has become a lifestyle to most of us that we`ve adopted in our own unique ways.

Speaking of adoption - it is always interesting to observe where the latest trends are going; what products are enjoying the most success and what we can look forward to in the coming months.

Undoubtedly, mobile MP3s and MP4s are making some serious inroads, particularly in the South African marketplace. We`ve seen some truly significant growth and have subsequently mobilised our efforts around it.

Looking closer at MP4s, it would seem that what MP3 has done for the Internet MP4 is doing for movies. As most of us are aware, the software standard shrinks video files into a more manageable size. Couple this with a cool, mobile device such as a portable DVD player and you have an on-the-move home cinema.

Portable DVD players, for example, offer full mobility (rechargeable batteries) support MP4 and other CD standards, USB port and SD/MMC card support.

Home entertainment is also another element of the digital lifestyle that is seriously stepping to the fore. Here, Thermaltake MediaLab and Microsoft Media Center have set the tone for things to come. Indeed, we`re seeing more and more users utilising the software and hardware to enable a futuristic home entertainment centre.

Again, suppliers are mobilising towards the above trends, providing hardware options that are a cut above the normal. Companies such as Asustek Technology are, for example, developing motherboards that are optimised for home entertainment systems.

The digital lifestyle is moving in leaps and bounds - each industry is striving towards the latest benchmarks set and endeavouring to provide technologies that are more than just technology.
