Venture Computer, the sole distributor in South Africa for Lexmark International Inc., today announced the Lexmark 5000 Colour JetPrinter, a high-resolution inkjet printer that sets new standards for flexibility, value and performance. This versatile printer sets a new price point in terms of value, and yet provides outstanding quality with its resolution of 1200 by 600 dpi (dots per inch). Breakthrough technology in the high-definition print heads and a completely redesigned paper feeding system have been introduced with this new midrange printer, which will set the standards for the competition to follow. A radically new user-friendly paper loading system allows the user to simply drop in nearly all types and sizes of media, with accurate feeding and virtually no paper jams. The adaptability of this loading system allows users to print all types of documents -from envelopes to transparencies and special papers - without any paper tray settings to change. The wide print heads of the 5000 can print up to two lines per pass for a maximum top speed performance at up to 5 ppm (pages per minute). High-resolution colour and waterproof black ink cartridges are employed for the first time on a mid-range printer. . "Now you can print laser quality black text and true life colours with your desktop printer, even on plain paper", said Richard Fearon, sales and marketing director at Venture Computer. The Lexmark 5000 also permits 6-colour Photo printing with the optional Lexmark Photo cartridge, which delivers greater treatment of shadows and smoother transitions between colours. The style of the new 5000 reflects Lexmark`s commitment to design as well as performance, and builds on the award-winning forms of recent Lexmark printers. The interactive printer driver for the new 5000 guides the user through the printing process, with on-screen print job status and three different print modes - from quick print to high quality document printing. The new printer is compatible with Windows 3.1, 3.11, 95, Windows NT 4.0, as well as DOS applications running under Windows. It is covered by a 3-year exchange warranty.
