Venture Computer, the sole distributor in Southern Africa for Lexmark International, today announced that Lexmark`s entire line of Optra printers, OptraImage multi-function devices, printer peripherals, printer software and print drivers are compatible with the Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional and Microsoft Windows 2000 Server operating systems.
"Lexmark have worked hard to ensure that key features of their products are accessible and intuitive for customers choosing Windows 2000,`` said Richard Fearon, Business Development Director at venture Computer. "Lexmark are committed to developing printing solutions and management tools for the way Lexmark customers work.``
To ensure that Lexmark customers experience a smooth transition from Windows NT 4.0 to Windows 2000, Lexmark worked closely with Microsoft. New print drivers, print management software and new product features take advantage of the unique Windows 2000 system features and open standards.
Printer Drivers
Lexmark drivers for Windows 2000 work with the Microsoft Active Directory allowing end users to find printers according to their features and options with a single logon.
In addition to the Lexmark print drivers that ship with Windows 2000, customers can download more drivers, such as those for recently announced products like the Optra M410, Optra T family and Optra W810 laser printers, from the Lexmark Web site. Lexmark also provides a full range of custom drivers from its website to maximise key Lexmark printer features, such as fax-from-driver capability and downloading of fonts, forms or macros to flash memory or a hard disk.
Installation and Deployment Tools
To eliminate the hassle of travelling to each user`s workstation for print driver updates, Lexmark provides tools for installing printers and multifunction products on Windows 2000 desktops. IT administrators can remotely distribute print drivers to Windows 95/98/NT 4.0/2000 workstations on the network, dramatically reducing installation time. Lexmark also enhanced its Web installation utility for hands-free driver updates on Windows 2000 user systems.
Lexmark`s NetPnP software, a robust network printer and multifunction product installation utility, now automatically publishes Lexmark network devices on the Microsoft Active Directory within seconds of attaching them to the network. NetPnP will also automatically notify Windows 2000 network users via e-mail when a new device is available on the network.
Print Management Software
Lexmark`s MarkVision printer management software also has support for Windows 2000 systems for network and locally attached printers, including support for USB.
MarkVision for Intranets supports Windows 2000 Intranet servers and provides Web-based print management capabilities for IT administrators in Windows 2000 Intranets. Browser- based management improves administrator productivity by eliminating the need to launch separate applications and working across operating systems. MarkVision`s intuitive, graphical user interface saves time in assessing problems and helps to prevent them before they happen.
Windows 2000 has a new feature that allows users to view shared printer information through a browser. MarkVision for Intranets is integrated with this new feature to report printer status information, installed features and toner levels in real-time.
Web-enabled Printing
The Lexmark MarkNet 2000 Series of internal and external print servers provide IPP (Internet Printing Protocol) capability which allows direct-to-URL printing with Lexmark network printers and multifunction products using the Windows 2000 IPP client implementation.
