Lexmark boasts breakthrough in color printing

Johannesburg, 26 Jun 1998

Venture Computer, the sole distributor for Lexmark International in South Africa, today announced the Lexmark Optra Color 1200, a new top-end desktop colour printer

The Optra Color 1200, is the fastest available desktop colour page printer, and offers 12 ppm full colour and mono A4 printing, 6 ppm full colour and mono A3 printing, as well as 3 ppm full colour and mono transparency printing, including a 22 second Time to First Page.

It offers 600 x 600 dpi resolution and 1200 Image Quality. This break-through in speed has been achieved by the utilisation of a 64-bit 200 MHz RISC processor, a single pass in-line printing process together with LED (Light Emitting Diode) Printhead Technology.

The Optra Color 1200 is a corporate and enterprise-wide networkable printer that includes flexible paper handling to support a wide variety of applications.

For example, it is able to handle media sizes up to 11 inches x 17 inches, and has the ability to print on a broad range of media types and up to two optional 250 sheet input drawers, thus allowing customers to keep up to four different types of media ready for printing.

It supports PCL 5c, PCL 6 and PostScript Level 2 emulations, all major software environments and is supported by the award-winning MarkVision network printer management software.

"Lexmark has now announced the first colour printer capable of handling the networked and variable workloads demanded by the corporate environment, at mono printer speeds" said Richard Fearon, sales and marketing director at Venture Computer. "This printer reduces the cost of colour printing significantly", added Richard.

Other innovations included with the Optra Color 1200 include the use of Flash Memory, a 64-bit data bus, a64-bit turbo cache, no oil or waste toner bottle, and the capability of copy collation multipage printing N-up (2,4,6,9,12,16).

The Optra Color 1200 complements the current range of colour printers from Lexmark, and tops off a range which now starts with the Lexmark 1000 inkjet for well under R1000, and thus offers the broadest range of colour solutions in the industry.
