Lexmark bolsters EMEA presence

Johannesburg, 24 Nov 2011

Lexmark's acquisitions of Pallas Athena and Perceptive are part of its to grow business in the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region.

This is according to Mike Ruschenbaum, VP and GM of Lexmark EMEA.

Earlier this month, Lexmark acquired Netherlands-based Pallas Athena, in a deal valued at $50.2 million. Pallas Athena is a provider of business process management, document management and process mining software.

Last year, Lexmark bought out Perceptive Software, which specialises in content management solutions. The company plans to use these two acquisitions to broaden its EMEA presence, strengthen its fleet management and business process portfolio, and grow its global sales force.

Ruschenbaum says: “The acquisitions will enable Lexmark to offer customers a complete solution in output management, reduce paper consumption and drive a process-orientated business, which is central to our strategy. It's more than just selling hardware.”

According to Ruschenbaum, Lexmark is taking a managed print services approach to proactively enable business to improve efficiency and reduce costs. He explains that an invoice is sent to customers informing them on whether their printers are being under- or over-utilised and how much is spent on printing in terms of ink and paper consumption.

Lexmark has established the Lexmark Return Programme to reduce paper consumption and the impact it has on the environment. Through the programme, customers can return empty cartridges to Lexmark in green bins, and the cartridges will be recycled.

“We have implemented a strategy in SA where we are engaging with our partners on long-term relations to and create a relationship and drive sustainability. It's no longer just about selling products. We engage, consult and help customers to reduce their costs, and this makes the whole Lexmark approach very successful,” says Ruschenbaum.
