Lexmark enhances MarkVision for UNIX Networks and adds Linux support

Venture Computer, the sole distributor in Southern Africa for Lexmark International today announced enhancements to its MarkVision for UNIX Networks. As a champion of open standards, Lexmark continues its tradition of technical leadership with the addition of Linux to the MarkVision list of supported operating systems.

"With this announcement, Lexmark provides the best and broadest support for printing and printer management for UNIX environments,`` said Richard Fearon, sales and marketing director at Venture Computer. "Lexmark customers now have more UNIX operating system choices and MarkVision is the tool that makes printer management easy.``

Centralised printer management is a valuable source of timesavings for network administrators. MarkVision provides remote monitoring, proactive status alerts and allows organisations to set-up, manage and maintain printers. Printer management with MarkVision ultimately reduces help desk costs and increases productivity for printer and network administrators.

MarkVision for UNIX Networks enhancements include:

  • Easy printer and queue set-up, management of many vendors` SNMP-compliant printers

  • Support for more operating system environments, including Red Hat Linux 5.2, Sun Solaris 7, Sun Solaris x86 7, SCOUnixWare 7 and HP/UX 11

  • Support up to 700 printers per server to allow for growth in a customer`s network printer environment

  • Plug and Print Support for MarkNet S and MarkNet Pro print servers to automatically configure printer devices and queues on UNIX servers

  • Graphical interface for printer searching over TCP/IP to easily add printers to MarkVision

  • Enhanced printer support for Optra E310, also includes Optra Se 3455, Optra K, Optra Color 1200, Optra Color 45, Optra Color 40
