Lexmark increases number of Cotlands Baby Days in first quarter

Johannesburg, 10 Jun 2004

Lexmark International SA today announced that its continued commitment to Cotlands Baby Sanctuary through its CRIB initiative, has hit yet another milestone with the accrual of 969 Baby Days in the first quarter of 2004.

The CRIB initiative, which was started in 2002, has grown from strength to strength, year on year. Hans Horn, Managing Director at Lexmark SA, says: "What we initially thought was going to be a necessary social investment programme, has turned into a project which emulates the heart of that which is Lexmark - caring about the community and more importantly our children."

The company managed to increase its Baby Day contribution to Cotlands by 21% in comparison to Q1-2003. Horn says the company`s ability to grow the number of days to a total of just over 6 200 in 2003 is a direct result of the commitment of the people who use Lexmark products, and in particular its channel partners, consumers and enterprise customers.

The Concept of the `Baby Day` spawned from Lexmark South Africa`s desire to start giving back to the local community and is part of its extended social investment programme Siyaphambili. The Baby Day converts to clothes, food, facilities and care at Cotlands for a child for a day.

Horn concludes: "It is important for all businesses to find a way in which they can give back to the community. At Lexmark we see one of our roles as giving back to the children of this country who, if looked after, will provide SA with a strong future."
