Lexmark's profit soars
Lexmark International reported a sharp rise in its fourth quarter net profit, helped by the company's restructuring and expense reduction actions along with increased customer demand, reports RTTNews.
The company also provided an outlook for the first quarter of fiscal 2010, with shares rising over 14% in pre-market trade.
For the fourth quarter, the print company's net earnings were $59.8 million or $0.76 per share as compared with $18.1 million or $0.23 per share in the prior-year period.
Sydney printer invests in direct imaging
Sydney printer 'The Printing Department' has bridged the gap between digital and offset by investing in a direct imaging (DI) Screen Truepress 344, says ProPrint.
Owner Michael Liley says the A3 machine was selected to fit between the company's established offset operations and its expanding digital business. The company purchased a Konica Minolta LD6501 Professional digital press, distributed by Screen, as part of its expansion into digital.
"We've always understood that we wanted to expand into digital. We just think it's a logical extension of our business," says Liley. "Offset printing is contracting as digital printing is growing. We don't think there's an inevitability that everyone's going to go to digital, but we do want to expand into a growing part of the market."
UTec gets green certification
Union Technology International (UTec) announced its manufacturing partner, Print-Rite Unicorn Image Products, received the China Environmental Labeling certification for its remanufactured toner cartridges, states PR.com.
Over 150 UTec remanufactured cartridges are certified to carry the label, which allows consumers to easily recognise products that provide environmental and health advantages and assurances that they are buying remanufactured toner cartridges that are truly 'green'.
“Adding remanufactured toner cartridges with China Environmental Labeling to our portfolio allows us to differentiate our products in the market from the competition's less environmentally-friendly cartridges,” says UTec GM, Iris Ngo.
