LG demos latest AV receiver system

LG Electronics last week demonstrated its latest AV receiver system - the ARX8500 - which it says was specifically made for the South African market.

At the unveiling function, held at Montecasino, in Johannesburg, the South Korean-based electronics giant said the ARX8500, which it also christened as Ziyawa, will be available to the public in October and will retail at R6 999.

“The LG ARX8500 is specifically designed to meet the specific requirements of local consumers. It delivers the ultimate sound experience,” says Michael Bruchhausen, senior sales director at LG Electronics SA.

The LG ARX8500 has an output of 1250 watts from its 5.2-channel multi-directional sound set-up. It also features a broader and taller front than its predecessor - the LG ARX8000.

According to LG, the specialised horn compression tweeter of the LG ARX8500 delivers direct high frequencies.

The dual duct system helps to expel the inside of the speakers more efficiently, triggering powerful bass output that can be enhanced with the company's Bass Blast technology, it adds.

LG notes that the 3D surround processor technology provides for an immersive sound experience that complements the standard 3D entertainment function. This allows consumers to enjoy 3D content delivered via a 3D PC, gaming console or Blu-ray player.

The receiver system also includes a USB port, which provides compatibility with a wide variety of content options, including MP3 audio, JPEG images and DivX playback of video content, in addition to the two HDMI ports.

During the demo, LG compared its latest offering to a Sony receiver system's sound quality as well as the 3D entertainment functionalities. Besides LG pointing to a few glitches in the Sony product's design, especially the speakers, the Korean company admitted that it was difficult to distinguish the two products.

“Sony has been the most dominant player in this field,” an LG representative said. “However, as LG, we are happy with the ARX8500 because it fares very well with our biggest competitor's product.”
