LG Electronics appoints CEO

The 59-year-old Koo led LG's ascent as a thin film transistor-LCD manufacturer and is also responsible for establishing LG Philips LCD which finally became known as LG Display.

The board of directors made the appointment at a board meeting at LG's Twin Towers headquarters in Seoul last week Friday. Earlier that day, Koo had been officially named an inside director at the ninth general meeting of LG shareholders.

Also at the shareholders' meeting, Yu-sig Kang, vice-chairman of LG Corporation, and Do-hyun Jung, the CFO and executive VP, were re-appointed to their roles as a non-executive independent director and an inside director, respectively.

LG continues to have a total of seven board members including four outside directors - In-ki Joo, Kyu-min Lee, Sang-hee Kim and Chong-nam Chu.

Besides the appointments, the shareholders' meeting also agreed to amend LG's business objectives with the addition of energy and environmental businesses to the company's articles of incorporation.
