LG Electronics stretches lead with world`s first mega-pixel PDA camera phone

Johannesburg, 20 Oct 2003

LG Electronics have unveiled the world`s first mega-pixel camera phone, the LG-SC8000. The forum for this unveiling is the ITU Telecom world 2003 in Geneva.

This revolutionary offering is equipped with a 1.1 million mega-pixel built-in camera, Intel 400MHz Xscale processor for PDAs, 192MB of memory, and Microsoft pocket PC operating system.

Its most important characteristic is that it represents the next stage of smart phone development, combining a mobile handset with PDA-styled user interface. It has the world`s first CCD-type mega pixel built-in camera with one-hour video function, and a semi-automatic sliding keypad which greatly reduces its size.

A variety of multimedia functions are delivered on the 2.8-inch, 262 000-colour TFT LCD screen. These include video and photo editing and mailing, MMS, GPS and MP3 file downloading through your PC. The phone will be launched in Korea around the end of 2003, and will find its way into international markets next year.

The phone is joined on the Korean manufacturers show stand by the equally impressive U8100 and U8150. These 3G (GSM/ GPRS/ WCDMA) offerings feature 260 000-colour displays, a VGA quality camera and 64 polyphonic ringtones.

These dual folder phones provide advanced 3G services such as MMS, Video telephony, VOD, WAP 2.0, MPEG4 and MP3, making them true multimedia mobile handsets. They are the smallest existing tri-band mobile handsets in the world.

These two offerings assure that LG Electronics will remain at the forefront of mobile technology, and remain leaders in the CDMA mobile market. They will also help establish the LG brand in GSM network markets, where LG is seeing an incredible growth in sales.
