LG Electronics' latest flagship Android smartphone, the LG G3, was unveiled locally last night - although the device will only be available in store from next month.

This comes just under a year after the South Korean electronics company launched the G3's predecessor, the 5.2-inch G2.

LG says its latest G3 flagship was developed under the "simple is the new smart" concept, which evolved from LG's product development philosophy, "learning from you".

The following are the G3's key specifications:

* Chipset: Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 (up to 2.5GHz Quad-Core)
* Display: 5.5-inch Quad HD IPS (2 560 x 1 440, 538ppi)
* Memory: 32GB eMMC ROM / 3GB DDR3 RAM / microSD slot (128GB max)
* Camera: Rear 13MP with OIS+ and Laser Auto Focus / Front 2.1MP
* Battery: 3 000mAh (removable)
* Operating system: Android 4.4.2 KitKat
* Size: 146.3mm x 74.6mm x 8.9mm
* Weight: 149g
* Network: 4G / LTE / HSPA+ 21Mbps (3G)
* Connectivity: WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth Smart Ready (Apt-X), NFC, SlimPort, A-GPS/Glonass, USB 2.0
* Colour: Metallic black, silk white and shine gold

GM for LG Mobile Deon Prinsloo says the new, larger display LG phone has a redesigned graphic user interface - devised with simplicity top of mind.

The G3 has a floating arc form factor and incorporates the design heritage of the rear key, like the G2.

The company has not yet released local pricing for the G3. An indication may be the price tag on Orange's local online store, where consumers can get the phone for R7 765 (16GB internal memory).
