LG Electronics (LGE) has introduced its first combination CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive - a single optical storage unit ideal for a desktop system.
The JCC-8120D combines fast CD recording (12X CD-R and 8X CD-RW), rapid CD/DVD reading (32X CD and 8X DVD), high-speed (12X, 8X and 4X) CD-R writing and quick CD-RW writing capability (8X, 4X & 2X CD-RW).
The combo drive offers high speed access (CD 100 msec, DVD 120 msec) and CD-audio data extraction (32X max), with a data transfer rate of 4,800 KB/sec for CD (max) and 10,800 KB/sec for DVD (max), for outstanding performance in either CD-RW or DVD-ROM formats. It also features a 2MB buffer to reduce data transfer bottlenecks.
"The combo drive is compatible with several CD-R and CD-RW writing methods, including Disc at Once, Session at Once, Track at Once, Variable or Fixed Packet Write and Multi-session," explains Jaehong Kim, product manager: IT products at LG Electronics SA.
"It also offers UDMA-66 support, an ATAPI interface and support for all D/DVD formats to improve compatibility and ease of use. The product includes RPC2 DVD Copy Protection Standard for enhanced disc copy security.
"The combo drive merges the best of optical storage and display devices into one high-speed, hybrid product that demonstrates LGE`s ability to meet the need for cutting edge peripherals at a reasonable price," says Kim.
